"Social Work education is to impart education and training in order to develop qualified personal and professional social worker". "Social work education is enhanced through interdisciplinary perspective and understanding of social issues and concerns."

Before joining Bachelor of Social Work, I was studying Bachelor in Business Administration (BBA). Eventhough, it was a good stream I was personally not satisfied. I slowly lost interest on studying BBA and in no point of time my interest shifted to social work. There are lots of issues like HIV/AIDS, drug addiction, abuse of the rights of children, women and the minorities’ group that has caused social ills in our country. I realized that more than a banking officer or a business man my country needs social worker who can stand against these social ills and help affected people to function well in the society and make a country a better place to live. To make my dream a reality I found social work as a most holistic approach. I decided to peruse my career as a professional social worker and there would not be any better platform like Kadambari Memorial College to step ahead for my career.

Social work profession, why?

The period after the intermediate level is very dilemmatic, critical stage and is the transition period of any student’s life and I was not an exceptional case. As per the human nature, doctor, army officers and to study in the United States were my pillows of dreams. The social work profession was never in my chips of cerebrum. As the saying goes, time teaches man and going through the same process of learning I come across BSW (bachelor in social work), while I was about to give my TOEFL exam and I got into it as well. The basic reason was the convincing interaction with Dr. BalaRaju, the principal of the college. But with course of time I realized that, I have given proper direction to my transition period and never felt guilty of not once applying for abroad.

For me social workers were those who cleaned up the polluted streets, who help poor and needy, who can donate piles and piles of currency and overall who always provides services free of cost. But this was my inappropriate learning. Unlike other profession this profession can best deal with any people. Social worker is not only to help poor and needy and even a large corporate sectors, banks, schools etc need social worker, though this concept might not be applicable in the developing countries like Nepal.

This subject converts the personality of the student; introverts into extrovert, ambiguous to comprehensible, negative to positive, egoistic to altruism, selfish to unselfish and so on but there are always exceptional cases as well but I was luckily among the general case. I feel that my analytical, observation skills, report writing, proposal writing, paper presentation etc has sharpened and above all I can deal any drug users, HIV infected, prisoners, mentally and physically challenged, sex workers or any people in high status or ranking etc in very comfortable manners.
