ICSD Asia Pacific
The conference on “Social Development and Transition: Path for Global-Local Partnership” was successfully completed in Dhulikhel, Kavre, Nepal from November 25 to November 28, 2008. It was organized by Asia-Pacific Branch of the international Consortium for Social Development and hosted the Department of Social Work, Kadambari Memorial College of Science and Management, Kathmandu Nepal. The main theme of the program was Social Development and Transition: Path for Global-Local Partnership and sub themes included poverty reduction and post conflict reconstruction, climate change, Disasters, human trafficking, HIV/AIDS, etc.
The international Consortium for Social Development (ICSD) is an organization of practitioners, scholars and students in the human services. It was started in the 1970’s by a group of social work educators to respond to pressing human concerns from an international. Interdisciplinary perspective. The organization seeks to develop conceptual frameworks and effective intervention strategies geared to influencing local, national international systems. It is committed to creating peaceful solutions to the problems of survival at the local, national and global levels.
This opportunity to organize conference played a vital role in bringing all the social work college together as many students from different social work colleges of Nepal including Kathmandu Model College, Padmakanya Campus, K and K College etc. actively participated in the program. The main features of the program were key notes presentation from dignitaries like Dr. Venkat Pulla, president, Brisbane Institute of strengths Based Practice, Mrs. Medha Patkar, Recipient of Right to Livelihood Award, Dr. Kamal Krishana Joshi, Chairman, University Grants Commission, Nepal Prof. Brij Mohan, Louisiana State University, USA, Plenary and concurrent sessions, pre/post conference workshops on different issues like poverty reduction, and post conflict reconstruction, climate change, disasters, human trafficking, HIV/AIDS, etc. Another highlight of the program was the formation ICSD Nepal Students Chapter. With an aim to bring all the students together and provide common platform to the students where they can enhance their knowledge and skill, this was formed and there were ten members of different colleges. There were altogether 14 sessions and participants were also taken to different places as field trip. Talking about the management in the program showed a good managerial skill and played a very crucial role in making the program successful.
