HISTORY

Sutra (Sanskrit: su´tra, Pali: sutta), literally means a thread or line that holds things together, and more metaphorically refers to an aphorism (or line, rule, formula), or a collection of such aphorisms in the form of a manual. Sutra (su'tr?) means a scriptural narrative, especially a text traditionally regarded as a discourse of the Buddha.  If we have the right formula (social innovations, scaling, entrepreneurship, resource utilization, access to education etc) one will be able to solve the social problems.  With this inspiration SUTRA Centre for Development Education and Research was established in 2005. The centre conducts research on social problems, trained human resource and network with national international likeminded individual and organization to contribute for social justice.

Nepal School of Social Work is a program  of SUTRA Centre for Development and Research. In 2005, the organization collaborated with St. Xavier college to initiate Master and Bachelor Progamme of Social Work with Purbanchal University in semester system. Kadambari Memorial College was established in affiliation with Purbanchal University to run Bachelor of Social Work. In 2007, Nepal College of Development Studies was established in affiliation with Tribhuvan University to run Bachelor program on Social Work and Rural Development. NSSW has been nurturing trained professional social workers since 2005.
